Pittsburg, Contra Costa County
Pittsburg faces the water where the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers come together and widen into Suisun Bay. Italian fishing families, many from Sicily, settled the waterfront in the late 1800s and worked the salmon runs. During World War II more than a million soldiers passed through Camp Stoneman, on the south side of town, on their way to the Pacific.
